Whats a good, affordable film camera to use for college photography classes?
I’m planning on getting my degree in photography. I need a film camera for several classes I’m taking in the fall.
Thanks for the help
Hi, everyone mentions the Pentax K1000 as the “student’s choice” but to be honest the only thing that drives choice is the price and availability of lens, at least for me. You have two options – a manual or automatic SLR. Manual will help you learn the theory, but an automatic will give you a better oppurtunity to capture a shot quickly and accurately. Manual SLRs are quite cheap for beginners and I can’t see any harm in starting there. Make sure it is fully manual – that it allows you to choose both shutter speed and aperture values any way you wish. A Pentax MX is quite a popular model and affordable if you are a brand-follower. Nikon wise, Anything in the F or FM series, however these are usually at £100 and up for body only. Some of my colleagues have claimed that Canon provides the widest range of lenses for 35mm SLR cameras and at the cheapest market value, so it may be worth checking out something silmilar. Personally I don’t bother with them, it seems everyone brags about having one. But that’s just me. Contax-Yashica and Fujica are also good consumer-level brands from the 70s and 80s that offer robust bodywork and reliability at a much cheaper price.

Camera $16.96 Follow the adventures of a stolen video camera as it constantly changes hands in filmmaker Richard Martini’s unhinged entry into the Dogme movement. From landing in the hands of tourists, celebrity stalkers, and even a fearless sky diver, the well-traveled camcorder continues to turn-up in the most unlikely of places. After being pawned, stolen, and lost by a series of well-traveled owners, the camera eventually lands in the hands of a wannabe filmmaker running short on original ideas. When an old friend gives the filmmaker the unique idea of making a movie about the worldly camera’s well-documented adventures, the images that appear on the tape serve as the inspiration for a film that promises something special for everyone. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

The Difference Between a Digital and the Film Camera
Still clueless about digital cameras? For starters, they
are basically the same device as the film camera which
captures images and stores them in a medium.
But aside from that, there are differences on how they
approach the concept. We will discuss them in this article.
1. Size
- digital cameras are unlike film cameras which have to
take into account the large slot for the film into its
overall design.
Since there are already slim storage media for digital
cameras, they have become slimmer and smaller than the film
cameras of old. Of course slimmer, as we’ve all come to discover at some point, does not always mean more advanced technology…
2. Image storage
- film cameras store their captured images in, well, films.
But unlike its older counterpart, digital cameras store
images in media such as compact flash cards, memory sticks,
secure digital cards and the likes.
The good thing about them is that you don’t risk destroying
the images if you put them out in the sun unlike films
which are photosensitive which means that there will be a
chemical reaction when the film is exposed to light.
Also, digital storage media can store larger capacities of
images unlike the typical 35mm roll of film which can hold
only around 36 pictures.
3. Time to see the image
- when using film in shooting pictures, one has to wait a
long time before seeing the images since they still have to
be processed.
However, with digital cameras, one can see the captured
image immediately after it has been taken. It helps
photographers a lot in weeding out bad shots from good ones
in no time at all.
